“We’re here for a good time, not a long time.” This is one of my favourite musical hits of my youth from the band Trooper released in 1977. As I’ve transitioned through life’s stages, I’ve asked myself two questions: ‘Why am I here and what’s my good time.’
I believe embracing the changes of aging is vital; it’s a part of life, and inevitable. I approach it with a mindset of finding joy in the simple things, nurturing my passions, continuous learning, and meaningful relationships. I consider aging ‘a gift of time’ which affords me the opportunity to craft a gratifying lifestyle, focusing on my values that serve as my guiding principles, and maintaining my sense of purpose, whether it’s volunteer roles or devoting attention to my well-being through exercise, diet, and cognitive challenges. And most important an active social life involving good times with family and friends from all ages.
This picture reflects one of my passions which is reading. Reading rewards me with a simple joy, continuous learning and a cognitive escape into other’s stories. I’m here for a good time, not a long time, so I’m resolute to live a vibrant life.
