At 75, I enjoy good health, although my joints periodically complain. On my birthday, I rode 75 miles, joining many other cyclists worldwide who do the same. I often get "accused" of being exceptional - not true, I am not an athlete. Some in the aging well world wonder if I have set the bar too high. I'm always clear with others about physical activity and refer them to Canada's 24-hour Movement Guidelines. My other strategies are to engage in my community (four volunteer boards including treasurer of Aging Well Nova Scotia) and bury myself in the study of history, politics and all things about healthy living. I believe it all starts by understanding that each of us can take greater control of our own health and well-being - once we accept that the rest is detail. If it isn't a joy to you, find something else that is - walking, dancing, gardening, playing with the grandkids. It all helps and it feels good.
